Welcome To Folsom, CA

The central California community lies at the foothills of the Sierra Nevada mountains and is most widely equated with Folsom Prison. Folsom began as the Rancho Rio de los Americanos until Joseph Libbey Folsom purchased the land to establish a community.

Initially, the new settlers consisted of people coming west to find gold in the mountains. Today, the city is a popular destination for outdoor recreation around Folsom Lake and has one of the lowest crime rates in the state. Local attractions include the Folsom City Zoo Sanctuary, the Folsom History Museum and the Museum of Wonder & Delight.

Things To Do

The city celebrates its Western heritage when July 1 rolls around with the annual Folsom Pro Rodeo. Each night, the show kicks off when the Painted Ladies enter the arena bearing flags and riding their beautiful horses. Rodeo clowns help keep the cowboys and cowgirls safe during events while entertaining the crowd. Budding rodeo participants enchant spectators while mutton busting. The excitement unfolds during all of the PRCA competitions. The event also features nightly concerts and fireworks displays.

Toward the end of September, the community welcomes fall with the Folsom Gourd & Arts Festival. The weekend event in Folsom City Park features the work of more than 150 artists whose specialty involves decorating gourds. Activities include artist demonstrations, art classes, live entertainment and refreshments. Merchadise vendors also offer gourds and arts supplies.

Music lovers have a great time during the annual September Folsom Live music festival. Four stages host a variety of local and regional bands throughout the event to the joy of audiences. Pre-party events include a power lunch, painting exhibitons, and social mixers. Local businesses provide drinking and dining options so the fun continues after hours.

In October, the community hosts the annual Folsom Renaissance Faire. The event features a different theme each year and entertains all with theatrical performances, a royal family, knights in armor on steeds, pirates, peasants and street performers. Lions City Park transforms into an Elizabethan village filled with shoppes and merchants along with historic foods and beverages.
