Welcome To Norwalk, CT

The historic city lies along the shores of Long Island Sound in the southwestern corner of the state. By the 19th century, Norwalk gained the nickname "oyster town" for the local industry that provided an abundance of shellfish. Some of the many local points of interest found here include the Lockwood-Mathews Mansion Museum, the Maritime Aquarium at Norwalk and the Norwalk Islands.

Things To Do

Each May, a local Irish pub hosts the Annual O'Neills 5K event. A group of bagpipe musicians signal the start of the race. Hundreds of runners make their way around the course, which includes 2.5 miles of spectacular waterfront views. Runners and spectators alike enjoy the food traditional music and dancing on the deck of O'Neill's. T-shirts, prizes and raffles are some of the awards.

During the third weekend in June, serious art lovers converge on Matthews Park for the annual Art Festival. More than 100 artists chosen from local and regional talent have the opportunity to display their creations. Among the media used, exhibited categories include ceramics, drawings, fiber, glass and metal. Adults and children are also encouraged to participate in the various activities.

After Independence Day, the community celebrates the NICE Festival in Oyster Shell Park. The Norwalk International Cultural Exchange features traditional costumed dancing and music provided by diverse ethnic performers. Guests also have the chance to sample authentic culturally diverse foods and learn about the customs and traditions of the people.

At the end of August, local residents of Greek heritage welcome all to the annual St. George Greek Orthodox Festival. The event features a carnival, popular Greek foods and Pontic Greek Dance presentations.

For three days during the first weekend in September, Norwalk celebrates its fishing industry during the annual Oyster Festival. The event takes place in scenic Norwalk Veteran's Memorial Park. All enjoy the carnival-like atmosphere, which includes amusement rides, games and fair foods. Vendors sell many different nautical and oyster-themed products along with fresh seafood.
