Have Some Unique Fun on the East Coast in Westport, CT

The historic community lies along the Long Island Sound in the southwestern corner of Connecticut. The first European settlers arrived in 1693 and established farms. By 1910, the tranquil, scenic destination began attracting artists, authors and musicians. Shortly thereafter, Westport slowly evolved into a suburban community. Along with water-based recreation opportunities, guests enjoy visiting the Music Theatre of Connecticut, attending programs hosted by the Rolnick Observatory and exploring Sherwood Island State Park.

Things To Do

At the beginning of May, foodies enjoy attending the three-day Taste of Westport event. Dozens of restaurateurs, vendors, breweries and wineries offer up a diverse feast of classic dishes and gastronomic nuances. The all you can eat and drink event includes live entertainment.

Each May, canine owners bring their four-legged friends to the Westport Dog Festival. Owners have the chance to show off their dog's abilities during the doggie fun zone obstacle course and the possibility to win prizes in various categories. There are also canine demonstrations presented by law enforcement and rescue groups. Veterinarians offer talks on dog health and safety topics. The event also features training sessions.

For four days in the middle of June, locals have a great time at the Yankee Doodle Fair. The event features carnival rides and arcade games along with an international food court. There is also a raffle and a long list of special entertaining events for visitors of all ages.

In July, art lovers make a point of going to the Westport Fine Arts Festival. Collectors from across the country attend the event in hopes of finding unique works to add to their collection. The exhibits include everything from ceramics to watercolors. The event along the Saugatuck River also features live music and various children's activities.

Over Labor Day Weekend, locals celebrate what is left of summer at the annual Westport's Blues, Views And BBQ Festival. The family-friendly festivities last for two days on the Levitt Pavilion property. The event features live entertainment by some of the country's top performers along with plenty of good food."
