Welcome To Aurora, IL

The Chicago suburb is the second most populated in the state. Settlements on either side of the Fox River eventually merged to form the community. Aurora gained the nickname "City of Lights" for being one of the first in the country to construct electric street lights.

Local popular attractions include the Hollywood Casino Aurora, the zoo and sunken gardens in Phillips Park and the Schingoethe Museum of Native American Culture.

Things To Do

On the second Saturday of each June, environmentally conscious enthusiasts attend Aurora Greenfest at the Prisco Community Center. Indoor and outdoor vendors display their products, which include healthy food, household items and services. A children's eco-village provides an educational opportunity for younger visitors. The events also feature live entertainment and refreshments.

The Fox River waterfront hosts a number of annual events, which include the Blues on the Fox in June. The weekend event presents live concerts each afternoon and evening by performing artists from across the country. The Two Brothers Summer Festival takes place during the first weekend in June. The event combines live music with craft beer sampling and a selection of food.

The Fox Valley Park District organizes and presents a number of events throughout the year. Many take place at Blackberry Farm, which is a living history museum. From June into August, the location offers free concerts. In October, the brave are invited to attend the Ghosts in the Graveyard festivities, which include a nightly skeleton hunt, spooky storytelling, carousel rides and refreshments.

From June through August, the park district hosts the annual Free Concerts in the Park series. Scheduled concerts take place at various community parks each week. The musical presentations range from classical and country to pop and rock.

For the holiday season, community organizations create and present the annual Festival of Lights display in Phillips Park. The drive-through path spans a full mile in length and features hundreds of thousands of decorated trees and unique holiday-themed displays. Many are animated and set to music.
