Yearlong Fun in the Lakefront Community of Evanston, Illinois

The shores of Lake Michigan mean basking in the sun, swimming, fishing and boating. The Grosse Point Lighthouse remains one of the most famous in the U.S. and offers tours. Northwestern University regularly provides concerts and theatrical performances while having an observatory that welcomes the public.

Things to do

Throughout the month of June, area residents have the chance to enjoy warm evenings under the stars while attending a live performance during the Starlight Concert Series. The concerts are presented at various local park locations. The types of music presented also differs. During the month of August, local parks also serve as the location for free movies under the stars.

Hundreds of artists and crafters from across the country display their talents every year at the Custer Fair. Exhibits include everything from antiques to wearable art. Held over Father's Day weekend, the event also features dozens of food vendors and live entertainment provided by Chicago area musicians and theater performers.

The lakefront transforms into a Global Village during the annual Ethnic Arts Festival. The event commemorates world culture by providing a number of different family-oriented activities, art exhibits, international cuisine offerings, musical and dance performances.

Evanston celebrates area youth by presenting the annual Kits, Cats and Kids Block Party. The family-friendly event features an array of arts and crafts, games and other activities for participants of all ages.
