Welcome to Springfield, IL, Abe Lincoln's Hometown!

Most anything you want to know about Abraham Lincoln can be found in Springfield, the capitol city of Illinois. Visit Lincoln's home, law offices and tomb as well as his library and museum. Visitors can also tour Frank Lloyd Wright's Dana-Thomas house, an early "Prairie house" from 1902.

Things to do

On that subject, the Dana-Thomas House is a good example of Wright's preference for Asian influences. Tours are about an hour and include information about Wright's "Prairie School" of architecture.

The home of Abraham Lincoln, 16th President of the nation, is open for tours as well, and looks much like it did during the Lincoln's stay there. Some wallpaper has been reproduced to look like the original.

The Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum houses original artifacts and uses special effects to demonstrate history and share other information. The museum has a restaurant and gift shop, of course, and both library and museum have had to be expanded due to great public interest.

The Annual International Carillon Festival in the large and flower-covered Washington Park is a pleasant and different event held in the summer. Bring lawn chairs and food and watch carillon players live on a big screen. It is certainly international with 15 countries at this event where the large carillon stands.

Springfield has plenty of lodging and dining options for visitors. Make reservations and take your time exploring the sights. Let the kids run off the energy at Knights Action Park at the arcade, splash pool, golf options, rides and batting cages.
