Welcome To West Lafayette, IN

Have Fun and Learn the Fascinating History of West Lafayette, IN

West Lafayette was established in the west-central region of Indiana and is known for being the home of Purdue University. The community was founded in 1888 by combining the towns of Chauncey, Kingston and Oakwood. The downtown area boasts unique boutique shops and an old-fashioned drive-in restaurant. There are also breweries and wineries along with art galleries and theaters. Popular attractions found in West Lafayette include the Columbian Park Zoo, the Tippecanoe Battlefield & Museum and Prophetstown State Park.

Things To Do

For three days toward the end of June, folk music fans and fiddlers arrive at the Tippecanoe Battlefield Museum and park for the annual Fiddler's Gathering. Seasoned fiddlers and amateurs of all ages take to the stage to offer their talents to adoring crowds. Musicians and vocalists also have the chance to attend workshops. All enjoy the selection of fair foods.

In the middle of July, locals celebrate the annual Wabash Riverfest. Teams gather to compete in canoe racing competitions. Others compete in the Water Drop 5K Run/Walk. Little ones are invited to participate in the Water Droplet Kids Run. There is also live entertainment, corn hole games, coloring contests and other children's activities in addition to a zipline and a rope climbing challenge. Food and beverage vendors also attend the festivities.

During the second weekend in September, all gather downtown for the annual Global Fest. The event celebrates cultural diversity through music, dance, arts and crafts. There are a variety of exhibits and international foods to enjoy. Live performances entertain visitors throughout the event. Families and children are also encouraged to enjoy the variety of activities.

Beginning the last weekend in September, many gather at Fort Ouiatenon Historic Park for the annual Feast of the Hunter's Moon. The event recreates life in the middle 1700s, as French fur trappers and Native Americans traded at Fort Ouiatenon. Thousands of costumed performers take part in the event, which welcomes guests to come, observe and learn about the past."
