Escape Big City Madness and Have Fun in Bossier City, LA

The Shreveport suburb of Bossier City lies along the Red River close to the northwestern border of the Louisiana. In the early 1800s, James Cane and his family established a trading post across the river on land that eventually became Shreveport. Bossier City initially began as Cane' plantation, which he named Elysian Grove. A community emerged and grew quickly. Today, the popular destination attracts visitors who enjoy the venues along the Louisiana Boardwalk, the thoroughbred racetrack and the riverboat casinos.

Things To Do

In January, collectors and antique enthusiasts attend the annual Ark-La-Tex Antique Festival held at the Bossier City Civic Center. The event brings dozens of dealers from 15 states to the location for the three-day exhibit. They showcase a wide range of vintage items. Concessions are provided inside the facility.

In May, Barksdale Air Force Base thrills crowds during the Annual Air Show. The weekend-long event provides the public with the chance to tour the military installation and see the array of aircraft. Aerobatic and military pilots perform various feats in the sky to the delight of onlookers.

Holiday shoppers have the chance to get ready for Christmas early during the annual Shop Til U Drop arts, crafts and gifts show. The Bossier Civic Center hosts the event, which brings more than 100 vendors from many different states to the location. The event provides a one-stop shopping experience due to the wide selection of items and home décor objects displayed. Guests also enjoy various foods. Kids have the chance to meet Mickey, Minnie and Poppy the Troll.

In August, anyone looking for new decorating ideas or are in the process of renovating their home enjoy attending the Nest Fest. The New Orleans-themed event enables guests to enjoy the best of local cuisine and listen to live jazz musicians while watching design competitions and bidding on items.

Horseracing fans enjoy the racing and tempt lady luck during the annual Louisana Super Downs Derby. The event brings three-year-old thoroughbreds from across the country to compete for the $200,000 prize. Additional activities include an eating contest and a lady's hat contest."
