Welcome To Hagerstown, MD

Hagerstown lies between the Alleghany and the Blue Ridge Mountain in Cumberland Valley. The central Maryland community was founded in 1739 by German immigrant Jonathan Hager. The area is rich in American history and played an important role during the Civil War.

Many battlefields lie close to Hagerstown. Local attractions include the Hager House and Museum, the Mansion House Art Gallery and the Western Maryland 202 Locomotive Display and Museum.

Things To Do

From the last weekend of March into the first week of April, everyone is welcome to attend the annual Maryland International Film Festival. More than 100 films from around the world are available for screening. Events also include the chance to meet and greet surprise celebrity guests. Other activities include acting workshops, panel discussions and an awards ceremony.

City Center and City Park serve as the locations for the concerts taking place during the annual Western Maryland Blues Fest. For four days beginning June 1, a variety of blues and jazz musicians and vocalists entertain audiences. Performers include local talent and national celebrities. The event additionally features a long list of children's activities. Food and merchandise vendors are also on hand.

On Friday evenings in June and July, Hagerstown hosts Movies in City Park. The schedule of family-friendly movies range from popular classics to box office hits. Seating options include the band shell benches, blankets and lawn chairs. Concessions are available.

The community celebrates German heritage early during the annual Augustoberfest celebration. The festivities take place in the downtown area and include traditional food, music and dancing. Kinderwunderland provides entertainment for younger guests. Events also include a German car show and a charity walk.

During September and October weekends, all are invited to enjoy the fun at the Hagerstown Corn Maze. The festivities take place at Celebration Farm, which features an elaborate eight-acre corn maze. Adventurous individuals are welcome to test their navigation skills by going through the maze on Friday or Saturday nights. The location also has a pick-your-own pumpkin patch.
