Enjoy Historic East Coast Activities in Waterville, ME

Waterville was founded along the banks of the Kennebec River in the south-central region of Maine. The early 1771 township was known as Kingfield Plantation. The community grew on either side of the river. However, the east and west bank townships remained divided by the river until a bridge was constructed in 1824. Today, Waterville offers everything from quaint boutique stores to upscale shopping options. Cuisine choices are diverse. Miles of trails and the river offer numerous year-round recreation opportunities. Local attractions include the Colby College Museum of Art, Perkins Arboretum and the Redington Museum.

Things To Do

At the end of April, Waterville hosts the annual Family Festival. Live entertainment captivates the crowd. Little ones listen to storytellers and participate in activities and games. Refreshments are provided along with family gift bags.

In May, Camden Green Pocket Park hosts the annual Reggae Festival. Selected artists perform live during the afternoon and evening event.

For 10 days in July, Waterville hosts the annual Maine International Film Festival. The public is welcome to view films made in the state and from many world countries. The event includes a number of parties including an opening night celebration, the closing night ceremonies and festivities commemorating noted celebrities or filmmakers. The festivities include live entertainment and refreshments.

During the first weekend in August, the community celebrates the South End National Night Out Festival in Green Street Park. Guests of all ages enjoy a variety of activities and games, which include inflatables and a climbing wall. First responders offer live demonstrations. All enjoy the feast provided by the community BBQ.

In August, all are encouraged to attend the annual Taste of Waterville event. The festivities include specially prepared foods offered by local restaurants, live entertainment, a beer garden and children's activities in addition to merchandise vendors. The fun takes place along Main Street in the downtown area.

In the middle of October, Waterville hosts the Fall Festival Craft Fair. The event takes place at the New Beginnings Church of God where more than 60 artists display their handmade works."
