The city was founded along the Kalamazoo River in the southwestern region on the southern peninsula between Chicago and Detroit. The thriving community features amenities found in much larger cities. Enjoy live performances at either the Farmer's Alley or the New Vic Theatre. Gaze upon fine pieces of work at the Kalamazoo Institute of Arts. Perhaps explore the history of aviation at the unique Kalamazoo Air Zoo.

Things To Do

Fans of vintage automobile enjoy the prospects during the annual, June Vicksburg Old Car Festival. A selection of special guest cars line the downtown streets for the enjoyment of spectators. The weekend event also features an antique gas and steam engine show, antique RV displays and an arts and crafts show among other activities.

Jazz fans venture to the Arcadia Festival Site in July for the weekend Kalamazoo Blues Festival. The line-up features continual concerts provided by local, regional and national artists. Music selections include everything from ragtime to fusion. Food vendors cater the live event.

Summer and BBQs go hand in hand, and the city throws one of the largest BBQ feasts around during the August Ribfest. The three-day event offers guests chicken or ribs covered in a variety of special recipe sauces. Vendors also offer side dishes and desserts. In addition to the vast amount of food, the festivities also include live concerts provided by local and celebrity guests.

Clans from across the country and guests are welcome at the annual Kalamazoo Scottish Festival & Highland Games. The family event features traditional music, dance and food along with a selection of historic games and demonstrations. For the enjoyment of youngsters, entertainment includes the Kilted Magician, crafts and tossing contests.
