Experience Poughkeepsie, NY-The Queen City of the Hudson

The city is situated in the Hudson Valley and close to the southeastern border of the state between Albany and New York City. Poughkeepsie is home to three institutions of higher learning that include Vassar College, which houses the Lehman Loeb Art Center on the campus. Other popular locations include the Bananas Comedy Club, the Poughkeepsie Galleria and the Samuel F.B. Morse Historic Site.

Things To Do

July brings the annual Dutchess County Balloon Festival to Barton Orchards. Approximately 100 colorful balloons are launched day and night during the weekend event. Activities also include tethered balloon rides, hay mazes and hayrides, refreshments, live music, a food market, a petting zoo and arts and craft booths.

Participants and spectators take part in the annual Dragon Boat Race & Asian Festival each July. Around two dozen 40-foot canoes decorated to resemble dragons race along the Hudson River. On the shoreline, guests experience Asian culture through various cooking demonstrations, craft workshops, martial arts displays and live entertainment.

From the end of June until the first of August, audiences have the chance to view live presentations during the annual Powerhouse Theater Season. Members of the New York Stage and Film along with Vassar College combine efforts to highlight the works of emerging and established actors, directors and playwrights.

Each July, R & M Promotions welcomes all to celebrate Hispanic culture and heritage during the Latin American Festival. Waryas Riverfront Park provides the location for the no-cost event that features live entertainment, crafts, food and children's activities.

During the fall season, the Adams Fairacre Farms hosts the Annual Harvest Fest. Along with an abundance of freshly harvested produce, the event features face-painting, a petting zoo, pony rides and season appropriate activities.
