Welcome To Downingtown, PA

Enjoy Big Town Fun in the Little Borough of Downingtown, PA

The borough of Downingtown was created in the southeastern region of Pennsylvania. In 1705, Sami Warren arrived and constructed a log cabin. Daniel Butter migrated here and established a number of mills here and in the surrounding area. Other pioneers came and the village grew. The new community came to be known as Downingtown for local businessman Thomas Downing. Downingtown gained pop culture notoriety after the 1958 film "The Blob was filmed here. Outdoor enthusiasts find many trails through forested areas along waterways and in the borough's parks.

Things To Do

During an entire weekend at the end of May, the borough hosts the annual Downingtown Fine Arts Festival. The event takes place along the Main Street in the downtown area. Numerous selected artists display their works, which represent a wide variety of mediums.

In September, the community hosts the Olympics for Little Hearts events. Youngsters aged 2 to 12 are welcome to participate in the activities in Kerr Park. Along with modified Olympic games, youngsters also enjoy food and fun-filled activities. The proceeds from the event benefit UNICEF.

Toward the end of September, all are invited to attend the annual Fall Festival. The festivities take place along Green Street and East Pennsylvania Avenue. Food and merchandise vendors line the streets. Stages offer live entertainment. Area brewers offer samples of their craft beers. Children enjoy a specially designated kid's area.

At the end of October, Downingtown welcomes all costumed youngsters and their parents to attend the annual Boo Bash. The activities take place in Kerr Park and include a variety of family-friendly games, costume and pumpkin carving contests. All also enjoy an outdoor double feature Halloween-themed movies.

During December, the borough hosts a number of holiday-themed events. After Thanksgiving, the community has the Borough Christmas Tree Lighting ceremony. Santa visits with Downingtown youngsters in the historic Log House.

On the second Saturday of the month, all are invited to venture to Lancaster Avenue to see the annual Christmas Parade. Marching bands and other musical groups provide entertainment along the procession, which features holiday-themed floats."
