Welcome To Doylestown, PA

The township developed on land that was originally owned by William Penn. The community was named for Doyle's Tavern, which was a public house opened in 1745 around which a village grew.

Neighboring villages soon followed. The merger of the smaller communities evolved into Doylestown. Popular points of interest include the Fonthill Castle Museum, the Moravian Tile Works and the Kid's Castle. The charming community also hosts a number of unique events.

Things To Do

Locals and guests alike have the chance to celebrate Independence Day in a unique way during Fonthill's Old Fashioned 4th of July Celebration. The Mercer estate grounds serve as the location for the festivities, which include cooking and eating contests, relay races and games from yesteryear, live music and craft activities.

Toward the end of August, the Mercer Museum and Fonthill Castle host the annual Fonthill Castle Beer Fest. The event provides beer lovers with the opportunity to sample brews exhibited by local and nationwide breweries. Light foods are also provided along with live entertainment.

During the first two weekends in September, the National Shrine of Our Lady of Czestochowa hosts the annual Polish American Festival. The festivities include a recreated Polish village, carnival rides, family games, demonstrations, live entertainment on two stages, a shopping village and a wide selection of traditional Polish foods.

On the first of September, adults have the chance to sample locally produced beers and wines during the annual Wine Concert. Various inflatables keep little ones entertained while the adults enjoy the live music. There is also a large selection of light meals and snacks provided.

In an attempt to attract business to the downtown area and promote the arts, local store owners developed the Doylestown Arts Festival. The event transpires during the second weekend in September and attracts more than 150 artists. Artists showcase their creations along with providing live demonstrations of their crafts. The festivities also include five stages presenting live entertainment in addition to children's activities and food courts.
