Central Pennsylvania Festival of the Arts

Penn State hosts the annual five day July event in the middle of the month that celebrates the arts. During the festival, guests have the opportunity to see hundreds of visual art displays and while enjoying live musical and theatrical performances. A special Children's Day encourages young guests to create and sell individual works of art.

Welcome To State College, PA

State College was founded in the mid-1800s as a village in the heart of the state. The village evolved into a town to accommodate Penn State College in 1855. State College is rated in the top five safest communities in the country.

The borough also earned the nickname "Happy Valley." Popular State College destinations include the Centre Furnace Mansion, Penn's Cave and the Tussey Mountain Ski and Recreation area.

Things To Do

On April 1, Penn State hosts the annual Renaissance Faire. Visitors step back in time when entering Lederer Park to see belly, maypole and Irish dancing. Dance lessons are also offered. Students present some of Shakespeare's most famous plays and costumed characters fight with swords and medieval weapons. There are also food and merchandise vendors.

During the first weekend in June, State College hosts the annual Happy Valley Music Fest. The two-day event features four stages on which artists perform. The line-up includes popular celebrity bands. Local pubs provide the beer and restaurants offer their finest meals.

For four days in the middle of July, the community hosts the annual Festival of the Arts. More than 125,000 people venture to the downtown area for the event. Activities include a grand sidewalk sale, exhibits and national and international live performances on indoor and outdoor stages. There is also an Italian Street Painting event, BookFest and a number of children's activities.

At the end of July, automotive enthusiasts rally to the downtown area for the annual Last Cruise Invitational Show. Vehicle owners display their classic cars, which is followed by a downtown cruise. The State Theatre finishes the night with live concerts provided by bands playing music from the 50s through the 70s.

In August, the Centre Furnace Mansion hosts the Music Under the Sycamore Summer Party. All are invited to sprawl out on the lawn in the evening and enjoy the sounds created by an American band. Snacks are also provided.
