Witness the Great Smokey Mountain Culture in Knoxville, Tennessee

Situated in the Appalachian Valley between the Great Smokey Mountains and the Cumberland Plateau, Knoxville has a rich cultural heritage. The city's contributions to traditional bluegrass, country and mountain music are many. Visitors have the chance to see historical locations, attend fine arts performances and experience the natural wonders of the area.

Things to do

For an entire weekend at the end of March, world-class musicians, artists and film-makers come together to present a spectacular array of performances designed to delight the ears and the eyes during the annual Big Ears Festival. In various Knoxville clubs, galleries, museums and theaters, spectators are welcome to experience an interactive gala of collaborative efforts.

When the dogwood trees begin blooming in April, the community bands together to celebrate the Dogwood Arts Festival. The event commemorates the art, culture and natural beauty of the region through parades, garden shows, arts and crafts demonstrations while offering live entertainment.

Beginning in May and continuing through August, Knoxville hosts Concerts on the Square at Market Square. The no-cost series takes place every Tuesday and Thursday evening and offers an array of musical performances spanning various genres.

From November through December, Knoxville gets into the holiday spirit during the yearly Christmas in the City. Events include Christmas tree lighting ceremonies, a Christmas parade, store-front decoration competitions, outdoor ice skating and other activities.
