Experience Southern Charm and History in Leesburg, VA

Leesburg lies along the shores of the Potomac River and the foothills of the Catoctin Mountain in the northern most region of the state. Europeans acquired the land and established agricultural settlements in the 1730s. The Lees were one of the founding families, and the community was named for Thomas Lee. The elder Lee was the great-great uncle of Robert E. Lee. Historic locations within the city include the downtown area and the Marshall House. Activities also might include a live performance presented by the Loudoun Ballet Company, the chorale or the symphony orchestra.

Things To Do

The popular Flower and Garden Festival takes place during the third weekend each April. The event transforms the downtown area into a picturesque and fragrant paradise of gardens. Activities also include a landscape competition, a beer and wine garden along with children's entertainment.

During the first weekend in June, the downtown area attracts auto enthusiasts to the annual Classic Car Show. To participate in the presentation, vehicles must have been manufactured on or before 1990. Trophies are awarded for different categories.

On Saturday evenings, from June through August, the Leesburg Town Green presents the annual Acoustic on the Green concert series. Local and regional artists put on the shows. Guests are welcome to bring blankets or lawn chairs and picnics.

From the end of June to the end of July, all are invited to attend the Sunday Concerts at the Courthouse. A variety of artists provide the entertainment during the outdoor events. Musical presentations range from blues and jazz to cultural pieces.

Holidays in Leesburg begin on the first weekend in December with an arts and crafts fair, Christmas tree and Menorah lighting ceremonies. Businesses host an open house where children meet with Santa, families enjoy carolers and shoppers get free gift-wrapping. Ongoing events include holiday and rock concerts, a Christmas parade and a downtown Victorian Christmas celebration.
