Held each year during the last full weekend in April, the Panoply Arts Festival is supported by more than 2,000 volunteers. With its unusual roster of events, such as a fiddling contest and songwriter's competition, it is ranked one of the top 20 events in the region by the Southeast Tourism Society. This festival has something for everyone: art, competitions, dancers and a "Global Village featuring cultural pavilions from six different cultures.

For two weekend mornings in the middle of June, the skies over West Foley fill with rainbow colors, as over 50 hot air balloons take flight. Thousands arrive and gaze in awe at the unusual sight. Festivities continue throughout the days with live entertainment, friendly competitions, animal displays and activities for all ages.

Shakespeare Theater, housed in the Carolyn Blount Theatre, presents Shakespeare's plays year- round to people from all around the United States as well as from other countries. 400,000 performances of Shakespeare's plays are presented each year along with other genres, often emphasizing Southern playwrights.

This annual film festival takes place in the historic Theatre District at seven different venues and brings together independent filmmakers who showcase their work and diverse, passionate filmgoers who descend on the city to experience true Southern hospitality. The two groups have the opportunity to fraternize with one another as they move from one film to another and during meals, field trips and parties.
