Welcome To Peoria, AZ

In Peoria, Visitors Find that Arizona Offers Much More than Desert

The spring training location of the San Diego Padres and the Seattle Mariners lies at the foothills of the mountains in the south-central region of Arizona. In the late 1800s, pioneers established the first settlement here and named the location for their hometown in Illinois. The community remained small until after 1970 when the population began growing exponentially. Along with the chance to watch professional baseball teams play, Peoria attractions include the Challenger Space Center, Lake Pleasant Regional Park and the West Wing Mountain Preserve.

Things To Do

On Saturdays on designated months throughout the year, the community celebrates Park Fest at the Country Meadows Park. The evening festivities include a bike rodeo, bike helmet fittings and other children's activities. Guests also have access to refreshments. Once the sun sets, all enjoy an outdoor, family-friendly movie under the stars.

Toward the end of September, all enjoy a bit of Bavarian fun while celebrating the Old World Oktoberfest. The two-day festivities include authentic German music. The selection of Bavarian foods served included brats, pretzels, beer and other delicacies. Guests engage in various competitions and children enjoy the youth activities. Vendors offer a wide selection of products.

During the last weekend in September, Old Town Peoria hosts ¡Somos Peoria!. The Hispanic celebration features concerts provided by celebrity bands. Performers also present a Ballet Folklorico. Guests enjoy an array of traditional foods, a cigar bar, beer and margaritas. An activity zone boasts carnival rides, inflatables and a rock climbing wall in addition to various games.

On the weekend before Halloween, little ghouls enjoy the annual Halloween Monster Bash. The fun includes a costume parade, trick-or-treating at area businesses, inflatables, carnival games, craft-making and live entertainment.

On December 1, the community comes together for the annual Old Town Holiday Festival. The entertainment includes live performances, a visit with Santa, the chance to play in 20 tons of real snow and a craft market. There is also a gingerbread house contest, a choral contest, a kid's zone and concessions."
