Enjoy Hometown Fun Under the California Sun in Brea

Brea was established near the Carbon Canyon close to the southwestern coast of California. In 1894, oil prospectors arrived in hopes of finding black gold in the canyon. The arrival of mining companies and miners spawned the development of the Olinda and Randolph villages, which later converged to form Brea.

In later years, the community was known for citrus production. The construction of Brea Mall transformed the location into a popular shopping area. A public art program initiated in 1974 gained the town notoriety for being a thriving arts community. Points of interest include the Brea Art Gallery and the Olinda Oil Museum & Trail.

Things To Do

In June, Brea promotes family bonding by hosting the Father/Daughter Dance at the Community Center. Girls don formal dresses and spend the night making memories with their dads, as they enjoy dinner and dancing.

Independence Day Celebrations include the July 4 County Fair. The fun begins with a pancake breakfast provided by the Kiwanis, which is followed by a morning service. The day continues with live entertainment, a kiddie parade, family-friendly exhibits and games. Teens have a special area of entertainment. The Market Place offers handmade crafts. The local pool also offers low-cost swimming for the day. In the evening, all enjoy the fireworks.

On Wednesday nights from July through August, music lovers are invited to City Hall Park for an evening of entertainment during the annual Concerts in the Park events. The schedule of presentations ranges from Big Band and Swing to Country and classic rock. Members of North Hill Church will offer BBQ meals.

In the middle of August, the community celebrates Brea Fest. The family-friendly event features foods and beverages provided by more than 30 local restaurants. Two stages offer ongoing live entertainment ranging from concerts and theatrical performances to magic shows. Artists display their works and offer live demonstrations. Kidsville features craft-making, face painting and child-appropriate foods."
