Make a stop in Hollister and visit the San Juan Bautista Mission. Constructed in 1797 makes the facility one of the oldest and biggest in California. The ornate church houses a museum, cemetery and gardens. Behind the mission, guests also have the chance to walk along the San Andreas Fault line, which is clearly visible.

Venture into local wine country and tour the Eden Rift Vineyards in the Cienega Valley. The beautiful location was the vision of an Italian immigrant who brought his knowledge of wine and olive oil making to the state. See the processes involved and try the products.

Drive a few miles south of Tres Pinos and explore the San Benito County Historical Park. The living village provides the chance to tour a collection of 19th-century buildings, which include an 1874 schoolhouse, a 1880s era firehouse and a 110-year old bar and others. The site museum also houses a wide selection of artifacts and relics that tell the story of the local past.

Nature lovers enjoy hiking through the Panoche Hills Ecological Reserve. The 596-acre destination features many different types of trees, shrubs and other vegetation native to the coastal region. The location also serves as home to a wide variety of wildlife creatures that guests often have the chance to see.

The San Benito night sky is perfect for stargazing and the Fremont Peak State Park and Observatory are great places to start the journey. The location is wonderful for witnessing the Milky Way away from light pollution. The Observatory offers a multimedia presentation on Saturday evenings.

San Benito County was established close to the west-central coast of the state and was named for the San Benito Valley. Hills, mountains and waterways create an impressive view while supporting the productive local wine country. The communities found here are welcoming and offer an array of attractions.
