Experience Local Culture and Tradition in Lodi, CA

The community lies in the Central Valley of California's and gained notoriety as being the "Zinfandel Capital of the World." A group of families arrived, developed homesteads and a school here in 1859. One decade later, A.C. Ayers, Ezekiel Lawrence, John Magley and Reuben Wardrobe established a site for the town in hopes of attracting the railroad as it ventured westward. The railroad arrived, city streets were planned and Lodi grew.

The city is also the birthplace of the now popular A&W root beer. The Hill House Museum, the San Joaquin County Historical Society and Museum and the World of Wonders museum are popularly visited destinations.

Things To Do

In June, the Buddhist Church of Lodi welcomes all to learn more about their culture and heritage during the Lodi Obon Festival. The Stockton Street Church opens its doors so that guests may enjoy the traditional Taiko drumming, Obon Odori dancing, family-friendly games and Asian cuisine.

On Father's Day weekend, Lodi Lake is the place to be for the annual Craft Beer Festival. Dozens of local and regional breweries attend the event in order to provide guests with the chance to sample the ales, beers and ciders they created. There are also food offerings and live entertainment.

For four days in September, Lodi celebrates its wine history during the annual Grape Festival at the Ole Mettler Grape Pavilion. More than 40 wineries offer samples of their vintages. Guests also learn about food pairings and have the chance to enjoy a selection of great foods. Entertainers provide live concerts.

During the first Sunday in May and October, residents of all ages enjoy attending the annual Street Faire. The event encompasses 12-square blocks of the community and fills with hundreds of vendors. Shoppers find arts and crafts, antiques, home décor and beauty items along with dozens of fast food and ethnic cuisine options.

For three days each November, Lodi celebrates the Sandhill Crane Festival, as the birds migrate to the local marshes and wetlands. Thousands venture to the marshes and farmlands to see the birds return. Artists portray the beauty and essence of the birds in a variety of medium."
