  • Happy New Years Folks!

This year we are kicking off with an issue tracker application written in NodeJS! NodeJS allows us to write server-side applications in JavaScript.

    Program Intro:
Part I of this course is getting you familiar with programming in general. I want you to be really good at creating logical programs before we move on to designing static websites using HTML and CSS (Part II) and creating web applications using the MERN "stack" (Mongo/Express/React/NodeJS) (Part III). These concepts we discuss are transferrable to any programming language you wish to learn more about.

As the program progresses we will be utilizing the constructs learned from our previous sessions. I will reiterate ALL concepts so rest assured, this is the program for beginners, and newcomers are always welcome.

    Requirements:
You will need a laptop with NodeJS installed on it. This can be downloaded from the following link: https://nodejs.org/en/download/.

If you'd like help installing it before class, please come 30 minutes early and shoot me a message beforehand.

    Learning Targets & Prerequisites:
In the discussion section of each event I will post our specific learning targets and prerequisites. Meeting or understanding all prerequisites is NOT required, it is just an indication of whether you should come to our classroom beforehand to go over these concepts more thoroughly in a one-on-one/small group session.

    Grading and Homework:
Give yourself a grade and give yourself homework. It is your responsibility to ask yourself what kind of things you should be able to do with the things you learn about... Then do it, and show me:) That's how you will learn faster, when that incentive comes from your desire to learn or maybe even work in the tech industry. In this course there is never a need to search the web and copy code as so many students do, because you won't be graded on it.

    Communication:
    JOIN THE SLACK GROUP https://tinyurl.com/vz3rgqt

    Books:
Get yourself an O'Reilly subscription and to pay a little each month for all the tech books you could possibly want.
/* THESE BOOKS ARE NOT REQUIRED BUT HELPFUL */
    1) JavaScript Next - Your complete Guide to the New Features Introduced in JavaScript, Starting from ES6 to ES9
    2) JavaScript: The Good Parts
    3) Beginning NodeJS

    Cost:
This course is on a subscription basis and your first class is free. For a fraction of the cost I will personally teach you what people pay thousands of dollars to know. I've interviewed people from the "top" bootcamps that are out there and from this I am confident that there is a strong need for programs that actually wish to teach students.

Let's hit our NodeJS milestones so we can learn how to build web applications thereafter.
