  • Let's snowshoe this moderate/difficult 5++ mile round trip trail that follows an old mining road closed to vehicles - 1700+ feet of elevation gain. Bring your micro spikes and snowshoes and plan on carrying your snowshoes in case we need them further in on the trail. The trail parallels and crosses several streams as it breaks treeline ending beside the 13,000 ft Continental Divide. At the termination of this trail is an abandoned mine and rusted mine equipment. Plan on spending some time here enjoying a snack! No Dogs.

What to bring...Winter is here and Colorado weather changes quickly! Please come prepared with appropriate hiking clothing (no jeans or cotton), waterproof boots, hiking poles, microspikes, backpack and snacks, and water. Make sure you have in your pack in case you need it - winter jacket, snow pants, warm hat, extra gloves, extra socks, and extra layers, hand warmers, etc. Make it the best snowshoeing experience possible by being prepared!

Directions: From Denver take I-70 west to the Winter Park exit (US 40 West). Turn Left at the Henderson mine road (8.9miles). Follow the road 1.8 miles to the mine entrance. Turn right onto the road and follow it past the first parking area. Drive as far in as you can and find parking.

Carpooling: Meet at 9:00am at Wooly Mammoth PnR, Section CC (across from the Exxon Station) where we'll form carpools. The parking lot is located at I-70 West, Exit 259.

Optional Refreshment after the hike at a nearby restaurant TBD.

    See you there!
