Rejuvenate in the Rocky Mountains by Visiting Golden, CO

The scenic community lies along Clear Creek at the base of the Rocky Mountains in the north-central region of Colorado. The creek attracted prospectors during the gold rush. The abundance of gold is how the town got its name. A flourishing settlement eventually emerged. The picturesque landscape is filled with outdoor recreation opportunities that include trails for biking, hiking and skiing. History buffs find that Golden has more museums than any other city in the state. Interesting places to visit include the Colorado Railroad Museum, the Golden History Center and the Rocky Mountain Quilt Museum.

Things To Do

Every January, the community welcomes everyone of any age having a love of Western culture during the Colorado Cowboy Gathering. For four days, all enjoy chuckwagon meals, themed movies, music and written text celebrating the cowboy culture.

Each February, filmmakers and movie goers of all ages enjoy the three-day Colorado Environmental Film Festival. Audiences have the chance to view short and full-length films covering a wide variety of topics. The films are created by local and national filmmakers.

The American Mountaineering Center and the Buffalo Rose Events Center host the unique Elevation Belly Dance Extravaganza each April. Guests are welcome to watch demonstrations and learn to perform American Tribal Style belly dancing. In addition to classes, the four-day event features lectures and merchandise offerings.

On the weekend before Memorial Day, outdoor recreation fans attend The Golden Games. During the event, participants learn to fly fish, kayak, paddleboard and slackline. More than 100 also participate in competitions of each activity.

In commemoration of the Western legend, Golden celebrates Buffalo Bill Days during the last July weekend each year. Family-friendly festivities include a golf tournament, pancake breakfast, parade and catered concerts.
