Indy 500 Celebration

Over three weekends and two full weeks, beginning after the first few days of May, there is a lot of racetrack activity, including two nerve-wracking days of qualifications. The 500 Festival Mini Marathon kicks off the 12 days of action on the track, and it all culminates in the Indy 500 at the Indianapolis Speedway on Memorial Day weekend. Almost half a million visitors fill up the stands at the Brickyard Oval for the "Greatest Spectacle in Racing." See all the pageantry of the event and scream your lungs out with the rest of the crowd.

Indianapolis, IN: Home of the World Famous Indy Car Race

The Indianapolis Motor Speedway has welcomed fans of racing for more than a century. However, the city has so much more to offer. Within the metropolis guests find more than one dozen museums, and the Children's Museum in particular remains the largest in the world. Visit the historic district, enjoy the scenic green spaces or attend a professional sporting event.

Things to do

Spanning an entire month before the Indianapolis 500, the city presents the 500 Festival. The event features marathons and foot races for all ages along with parades and various forms of live entertainment.

Every August, Indianapolis hosts the annual State Fair. The 250-acre fairgrounds features a massive midway carnival along with hundreds of vendors, live celebrity entertainment, fun-filled activities, food and a bevy of exhibits.

The annual Indy Jazz Fest takes place at the end of the summer and welcomes a long line-up of local and celebrity performers who entertain tens of thousands of visitors. The 10-day event features concerts, jazz classes and interactive discussions on everything jazz.

For 10 days toward the end of October, movie fans have the chance to attend the annual Heartland Film Festival. The venue welcomes more than 100 independent film makers from around the world to showcase their documentary and feature films. The event also features various activities and parties.
