Red River Revel Arts Festival

Shreveport celebrates the arts during this October event. Over 180,000 spectators flock to this riverfront location where national artists display their prized pieces, and performers bring their art to life. Dedicated to arts education, organizers set aside an entire area of the festival for children's activities.

Discover Southern History and Big City Fun in Shreveport, LA

Shreveport is situated along the Red River in the north-western most border of the state. Established as a stop for steamboat trade, the metropolis today features the amenities common to other large cities. Surrounded by fragrant pine forests, cotton fields and wetlands, the community in recent years has also become renowned for having the third largest movie industry in the U.S. Frequented attractions found within the city include the Louisiana Boardwalk, the Sci-Port Discovery Center, the R.W. Norton Art Gallery and the Shreveport Municipal Auditorium Museum.

Things To Do

Not unlike a gala state fair, Shreveport residents and visitors alike come together for the festivities during the annual, 10-day Holiday in Dixie. Entertainment includes a parade, daily concerts and an expansive carnival featuring rides, traditional foods, games and vendors.

The local Cajun culture is celebrated during Memorial Day weekend each year during Mudbug Madness. The four-day festival features unusual contests, live performances by area artists, games, beer sampling and a massive crawfish boil.

Each fall, the local Asian residents invite all to help them commemorate their heritage during the annual ASEANA Festival. Guests watch traditional dance and music presentations, martial arts demonstrations and take part in various games. The event also features authentic Asian cuisine ranging from a BBQ to noodle dishes.

The city celebrates the holiday season with the yearly FaLaLa Louisiana. Festivities begin in the middle of November with the lighting of the city tree. Events include parades, fireworks displays, historic home tours and various family activities.
