Make Memories to Last a Lifetime in Historic Arlington, MA

The historic community was founded along the shores of the Mystic River and the Mystic Lakes in the northeastern region of Massachusetts. European pioneers created the new village in 1635 and named the location Menotomy, which in the Algonquian language means "swift running water." Mill Brook also flows through the community, which made for the perfect location to construct mills. In 1867, the name was changed to Arlington to honor the individuals buried in the Arlington National Cemetery.

Today, the properous community offers a wealth of amenities and outdoor recreation options. Historic locations of interest include the Cyrus E. Dallin Art Museum, the Henry Swan House and the Jason Russell House.

Things To Do

In April, Arlington Town Center emanates the music of performers during the annual Jazz Festival. The four-day event features the music stylings of various local, regional and national artists. Vendors offer refreshments, arts and crafts and other merchandise.

For four days beginning June 1, members of the St. Athanasius Great Greek Orthodox Church host the annual Greek Festival. The event attracts thousands from far and wide. The festivities include traditional games, carnival rides and other fun activities for the youngsters. Guests enjoy watching live traditional music and dance presentations along with having the chance to feast on Greek foods.

In the middle of September, the community celebrates Arlington Town Day. Businesses and organizations man booths along the pedestrian-only Mass Avenue. Vendors offer foods and beverages along with merchandise. A center stage provides ongoing live entertainment. Spy Pond Field offers concerts, pony and train rides, a dog show and other children's actvities. Willing participates enter the Town Day Road Race.

In October, Arlington hosts the annual Soap Box Derby. The event promotes STEM education in local youth along with sportsmanship and teamwork. Youngsters have the chance to attend car-building clinics or take advantage of the club car rentals. The race winner goes on to compete in the All-American Soap Box Derby World Championships in Akron, Ohio."
