Welcome To Gaithersburg, MD

Historic Locations and Events Await Guests in Gaithersburg, MD

The Washington D.C. suburb was established in the southwestern corner of the state. The area was originally settled in 1765 as an agricultural community and called Log Town. Today, farmland gives way to residential areas and tech companies. Gaithersburg features quaint neighborhoods and plenty of open spaces along with dining, entertainment and retail options. Some of the best places to visit include the Gaithersburg Community Museum, Olde Towne and the Washingtonian Center.

Things To Do

Each April, the Montgomery County Humane Society hosts the Paws in the Park event at Bohrer Park. Planned activities include a one-mile dog walk, pet-owner look-a-like, best trick and best singing dog contests. There is also a dog agility competition along with inflatables and children's activities.

In May, the Hispanic community welcomes all to participate in the annual La Milla de Mayo festivities. The event takes place in Olde Towne and includes a one-mile run/walk, a kid's fun run, live music, Cinco de Mayo festivities and Salsa dancing.

On July 1, Gaithersburg residents of all ages celebrate Summerfest. The event is a vibrant street festival, which features live entertainment on different stages, an abundance of good eats, children's activities and an extravagant fireworks display. The night concludes with the SummerGlo After Party.

In October, the community commemorates Bavarian heritage during the annual Oktoberfest at the Kentlands. The festivities take place at the Kentlands Village Green, the Kentlands Mansion and along Main Street and the Market Square. Guests enjoy an abundance of German and fair foods along with beer, wine and other beverages. Various bands provide live entertainment. There are also games and activities for all ages.

The holiday season begins with the Winter Lights Festival. All are welcome to take the 3.5-mile drive, which meanders through Seneca Creek State Park. The journey enables guests to encounter nearly 400 illuminated displays and 65 animated scenes. Specially themed locations include the North Pole, Teddy Bear Land and the Victorian Village. The festival continues through December 31."
