Welcome to Towson, MD, US

The community lies in the east-central region of the state. The town began in 1752 when the Towson Brothers purchased land and established a farm. Other settlers followed, and the growing community was eventually named for Thomas and William Towson. Local attractions include the historic Hampton Mansion and the Towson Town Center four-story indoor shopping mall.

Things To Do

During the first weekend in May, the community hosts the annual Towsontown Spring Festival. Court House Gardens and Patriot Plaza have outdoor stages where performances take place day and night. The entertainment includes a long lineup of bands in addition to dance troupes. Two family fun areas feature thrilling carnival rides and fair food vendors. The event also features a classic car show.

Beginning in the middle of May, the Towson Chamber of Commerce presents the annual Feet on the Street Friday block parties. The fun and festivities continue until the end of September and take place on Allegheny Avenue. Concerts are provided by area cover bands. A bar offers a variety of alcoholic beverages. Children enjoy the inflatables, face painting and other activities.

On the 4th of July, the community hosts a 1776 Family Fun Run and a parade. The run spans the four-mile parade route. Participants are treated to a breakfast buffet, beverages and musical entertainment. The parade begins after the race and features a long list of colorful floats, prominent citizens and organizations, marching bands and local first responders.

At the end of November, Towson gets in the holiday spirit during the annual Winterfest activities. Youngsters have the chance to enjoy breakfast with Frosty, the Grinch and Santa. On Saturdays, children have the chance to make holiday crafts in Santa's workshop and watch a holiday-themed movie. The Fire & Ice Night and Christmas Tree judging encourages all to admire the ice sculptures in the downtown area. Decorated trees are judged and prizes awarded. There are also free treats.
