Welcome To Livonia, MI

Explore Local History and Have Year Round Fun in Livonia, MI

The community lies along the southeastern border of the state between Ann Arbor and Detroit. The first settlement was established here in 1835 by immigrants who named the new town for their places of origin, which were Estonia and Latvia. The quaint town of Livonia is small but offers big city amenities. The community is also located less than 30 minutes away from more highly populated areas. Tree-lined streets and historic homes are part of the charm. The tight knit city hosts a number of annual events.

Things To Do

In July, six indoor and outdoor locations within the community host continual concerts during the annual Michigan Jazz Festival. Performers range from college students to professionals from across the state.

During the first weekend in August, St. Andrew's Society of Detroit hosts the annual Highland Games festivities. The event begins with a traditional Ceilidh concert and continues with authentic athletic competitions, music and dance demonstrations, a fiddling contest and the Wee Bairns, which introduces youngsters to various aspects of Scottish history and tradition.

During the last two weeks in October, the historic Wilson Barn undergoes a transformation and welcomes guests during the annual Pumpkin Fest-Haunted Barn. Visitors of all ages experience the chills and thrills of Halloween while embarking on a journey through the structure.

Livonia residents shake off the winter blues by participating in the LCRC Annual Cardboard Boat Races. Teams of all ages are provided with the supplies to construct their watercraft and race across the pool. Prizes are then awarded for the most creative boat, the fastest boat and race winners.
