Experience the Midwestern Charm of Novi, MI

The community developed in 1832 out of the existing Farmington Township in the southeastern region of Michigan's southern peninsula. The village eventually became a city in 1969. Today, Novi is a thriving community boasting hometown charm. Lakeshore Park and the Walled Lake feature miles of trails and recreation options. An abundance of dining and shopping opportunities are found at the Twelve Oaks Mall and Twelve Mile Crossing at Fountain Walk. The fully-equipped Novi Ice Arena is popular with ice skaters and hockey players alike.

Things To Do

In January, residents brave the cold to participate in the annual Chili Chilly Softball Showdown. The adult co-ed event involves double eliminations and games spanning six innings each. Prizes are awarded and all enjoy a koney dog lunch.

Each October, the local Asian community hosts the annual Japan Festival at the Novi High School. Live performances include traditional drumming, music and dance along with martial arts demonstrations. Guests also have the chance to enjoy a traditional tea ceremony, learn flower arranging, calligraphy and origami. The festivities also include a variety of children's games and authentic Japanese cuisine.

Later in October, residents welcome fall during the Pumpkinfest at Tollgate Farm. Visitors take wagon rides and choose their pumpkins from the patch. Children hear stories and navigate through a straw maze and engage in a game of pumpkin bowling. The site also includes a lineup of antique tractors and a bug house courtesy of Michigan State University. Live performers entertain guests.

Halloween festivities in October include the Monsters on Main events. Youngsters enjoy trick-or-treating at area businesses along with having the opportunity to play games, make crafts and watch a movie. The Day of the Dead provides all with the chance to dress-up in various costumes, watch dance performances, make crafts and enjoy other activities.

In December, Novi welcomes the holidays with the Light Up the Night events. Guests visit with Santa and the petting zoo. There are also train rides, a magic show, crafts and live reindeer along with refreshments and the tree-lighting ceremony. Each year, the Novi Civic Center invites area youth to have a pancake Breakfast with Santa."
