Welcome To Ypsilanti, MI

Experience the Unique Festivities in Ypsilanti, MI

The city of Ypsilanti was established in the southeastern region of the lower Michigan peninsula. Fur trader Gabriel Godfroy developed a trading post here in 1809. In 1829, Greek settlers established a settlement along the Huron River and named the new community for Demetrios Ypsilantis who was declared a hero during the Greek War of Independence.

In the early 1900s, automotive industries emerged. Ypsilanti was also the home of famed automaker Preston Tucker. Historic points of interest include the Automotive Heritage Museum, the Michigan Firehouse Museum and the Ypsilanti Historical Museum.

Things To Do

In July, Riverside Park hosts the annual Michigan Summer Beer Festival. Approximately 100 brewers from around the state provide samples of nearly 1,000 craft beers. Guests also have the chance to enjoy a selection of foods while sampling brews. Live bands entertain guests throughout the two-day event.

In the middle of July, music lovers and Elvis fans make sure to attend the annual Michigan Elvis Fest. The event is considered one of the best in the country and involves live performances provided by the top Elvis impersonators in the country. Activities, inflatables and performers entertain young guests in the kid's corner.

For three days each August, Ypsilanti celebrates the Heritage Festival. The activities and fun take place at the Ypsilanti Freight House. Guests enjoy continual live entertainment, art and craft exhibits and food vendors. There is also a comical duck race and other festivities.

In September, St. Joseph's Catholic Church hosts the annual Harvest Festival. All enjoy a hometown chicken dinner along with a classic car show, a bake sale, and children's games. Selected artists perform live to the delight of the crowd.

The middle of September brings the Orphan Car Show to Riverside Park. The event provides audience members with the chance to learn the history of the automotive industry with a special presentation. Guests also have the chance to see rare autos obtained from around the area."
