Welcome To Helena, MT

The community is found in the west-central region of the state and was originally popular with fur trappers during the early 1800s. By 1864, the location transformed into a camp for gold prospectors.

The billions of dollars uncovered made Helena one of the most prosperous cities in the country. The scenic town is surrounded by the Big Belt and the Elkhorn Mountains, the Missouri River, various lakes and wilderness areas, which makes the destination ideal for year round activities.

Things To Do

Each March, the Mountainfilm organization hosts the annual Telluride Mountainfilm Festival in Helena. The event takes place at the Myrna Loy Center where guests have the chance to view films that celebrate mountain cultures from around the world.

During the third weekend in May, the Lewis and Clark County Fairgrounds plays host to the annual Springfest. For four days, guests enjoy a variety of entertainment, which includes tribute bands imitating the looks and sounds of celebrity rock bands. The stage comes alive with music and special effects. The location also presents a carnival complete with rides, merchandise and food vendors.

During June, July and August, the community hosts the Alive @ Five summer concerts. Each Wednesday evening, music lovers enjoy the presentations, which take place at rotating locations. Thousands enjoy the entertainment that begins at 5:00 P.M. and continues until 9:00 P.M.

For four days toward the end of July, the Lewis and Clark County Fairgrounds present the annual Last Chance Stampede and Fair. Rodeo fans enjoy the excitement of each PRCA event. Children's competitions include the stick horse rodeo and mutton busting along with a special parade. Students exhibit their 4-H animals. There are also arts, crafts, food and merchandise vendors. A carnival and midway accompany nightly live entertainment.

In August, the Montana Brewer's Association hosts the annual MT Brewers Summer Rendevous. The festival is open to brewers across the state of Montana who arrive to provide samples of their beers. The event includes food, live music and activities for all.
