Enjoy Southern Charm and Hospitality in Gastonia, NC

Beautiful Gastonia is bordered by forested mountains and was developed close to the southwestern border of North Carolina. Tourism plays a major role in the economy. The lakes, parks and outdoor spaces offer a multitude of outdoor recreation options. Local attractions also include Crowders Mountain State Park, the Daniel Stowe Botanical Garden and the Schiele Museum of Natural History.

Things To Do

In May, the Daniel Stowe Botanical Garden hosts the annual Lost Hollow Music Fest. The weekend event features a continual array of musicians and vocalists providing live blues concerts. The facility also presents a documentary of the birth of the blues in Charlotte. Refreshments and other activities are also scheduled.

The 4th of July brings a gala celebration to Gastonia. The festivities encompass eight city blocks in the downtown area and include live concerts, a carnival, games and vendors. Visitors have the chance to participate in friendly eating contests and enjoy the arts and crafts exhibits. When the sun goes down, all gather to watch the fireworks.

At the end of October, the Daniel Stowe Botanical Garden hosts the annual Chinese Lantern Festival. The event takes place in the Asian-inspired area and includes ongoing martial arts demonstrations. Martial arts instructors also offer to coach. Artists also offer Chinese folk art and crafts and traditional Asian cuisine.

From November through December, the botanical gardens hosts the Holidays at the Gardens event. More than 600,000 lights create illuminated displays. There is a holiday tree made entirely of orchids. Guests have the chance to take enchanting carriage rides around the property, and a fire enables visitors to stay warm. Holiday music fills the air as all enjoy warm refreshments and visit with Santa.

The botanical garden celebrates the fall season and the onset of Halloween during the annual Bootanical festivities. All enjoy the sight of the fall colors while engaging in seasonal crafts and activities. Music entertains visitors who also might take carriage rides to enjoy the scene. A massive trebuchet encourages punkin' chunkin' and refreshments are made available."
