Local Entertainment Spans from Concert Halls and Fairgrounds to Blue Skies over Lincoln, NE

The state capital was established in 1856 by former sea captain W.T. Donovan and his family who were attracted to the area for the local salt flats. Lincoln boasts more than 125 parks that are all connected by 133 miles of trails. Popular tourist attractions include the Frank H. Woods Telephone Museum, the Speedway Motors Museum of American Speed and the Lincoln Children's Zoo.

Things To Do

For an entire weekend in May, aviation fans have a chance to watch the Guardians of Freedom Airshow. The Navy's Blue Angels and the Nebraska Air National Guard provide flying exhibitions. There are also aircraft displays, helicopter and plane rides, live entertainment, various exhibits and a Kid's Zone.

Beginning in the middle of May, the city hosts the annual Lincoln Beer Week. Regional craft breweries gather for talks and offer samples. Various venues offer beer and food pairings, contests and live entertainment.

From June through July, guests are invited to enjoy classical music during the annual Meadowlark Music Festival. Chamber music concerts are featured in various venues throughout the community.

For 10 days each August, hundreds of thousands visit the annual Lancaster County Super Fair. The grand event features 4-H livestock competitions and exhibits, demonstrations, an expansive carnival, helicopter rides, a zipline, nightly concerts and food vendors.

Whether into traditional art or the performing arts, the annual Lincoln Arts Festival held each September promises something for young and old. Artists display their works. Parents and kids have the chance to making their own masterpieces. The event also features live cultural performances.
