Now the largest marathon in the world, this New York event is held annually in November. Organizers select participants from over 100,000 applicants worldwide, predominately through a lottery system. Runners are treated to a tour of the city as a section of the course is found in each of the five boroughs. Hundreds of thousands of spectators line the marathon route to cheer on the participants.

One of the great holiday traditions occurs every Thanksgiving morning. Millions of all ages line Manhattan streets in New York City to get the best viewing spot for the most famous parade in the world. The Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade has it all, from marching bands, fabulous floats, and celebrity performances to huge helium-filled character balloons and Santa's first appearance of the season.

A beloved tradition since 1933, the tree lighting is the start of Christmas in New York. The selected tree is erected during November, at which time 30,000 LED lights are strung for the big event. In early December, thousands of people fill the plaza beginning at noon to enjoy musical performances and the exciting moment that the gorgeous tree is illuminated.

The biggest party in the world is held each year at Times Square as over a million local and international revelers gather at the Crossroads of the World. Entertained by amplified music, live performances, party hats and favors, the huge crowd celebrates for hours before the illuminated Waterford Crystal ball begins its descent at 11:59. At the stroke of midnight, tons of confetti pour over the assembled group as the New Year begins.
