Welcome to Canton, OH, US

The northeastern Ohio community was established in 1805. The name is actually a Romanized version of the Chinese city called Guangzhou. In 1920, Canton was the location where American professional football was born.

Today, the city is home to the Pro Football Hall of Fame. The community also promotes the performing arts through the Canton Ballet to the Canton Symphony Orchestra. Local attractions include the Canton Museum of Art and the McKinley Presidential Library and Museum.

Things To Do

When Spring arrives in April, residents have the chance to attend the annual Canton Film Fest 6. Various venues within the community present the short films, which cover a wide range of genres. The categories include action/fantasy/sci-fi, documentary, horror, drama/short fiction and music videos. All entrants are eligible for awards.

On the second weekend in June, the community presents the annual Canton Blues Festival. The festivities take place on Market Square where two stages present performances by 18 different renowned acts. The entertainment starts at noon and continues to 10:30 P.M. After five, guests have access to complimentary beverages and foods.

The fun continues on the second weekend of June when St. Haralambos Greek Orthodox Church hosts the annual Canton Greek Fest. All are welcome to experience Greek heritage and culture during the three-day event. There is live entertainment provided by musicians playing traditional music and costumed dancers. A kid's playground entertains youngsters. The event also features a menu of delicious authentic Greek cuisine along with a gift store and marketplace. Guests have the chance to sample Greek wines in the sampling room.

During the third weekend in June, the Canton downtown area emanates culture with the onset of the Stark County Italian American Festival. The three-day event features live entertainment, which is often provided by celebrity guests. All indulge in a wide selection of traditional Italian foods and treats. The event also has friendly Bocce tournaments and a line dance party. During the festivities, scholarships are awarded to high school graduates of Italian heritage.
