Enjoy Unique Fun in the College Town of Kent, OH

Kent was founded on the shores of the Cuyahoga River in the northeastern region of Ohio. The first settlements appeared in the late 1790s. The town's strategic location along the river influenced the development of water-powered mills and was originally named Franklin Mills. Resident Marvin Kent was instrumental in local railroad development and maintenance. The name of the community was changed in his honor in 1864. Today, the popular community is home to Kent State University. Local attractions include the Kent State Museum, the Standing Rock Cultural Arts center and the Wells Sherman House.

Things To Do

On the third weekend in February, Kent hosts the annual Beatlefest. More than one dozen venues in the downtown area host bands who perform the music of the popular 60s group.

Toward the end of April, locals get a taste of the islands by attending the annual Kent Reggae Jam. Various locations present live entertainers who rock the house with reggae and other traditional island music.

On the first weekend in June, art lovers and wine fanciers attend the annual Kent Art and Wine Festival along Main Street. Many different bands and musical acts offer continuous entertainment. Various wineries from across the state offer samples of their products. A variety of vendors supply food, arts and crafts.

During the third weekend in September, the community hosts Kent Oktoberfest. The festivities take place along Franklin Avenue downtown and include a large selection of traditional German foods, snacks and baked goods. Beer trucks are on hand to offer German beers and ciders. Visitors also enjoy the traditional entertainment.

At the end of September, Kent promotes the arts by hosting the Creativity Festival. The event takes place at the Kent State Esplanade and provides all with the chance to channel their inner artists by participating in interactive activities.

On October 31, Kent hosts the Family-friendly Halloween in the downtown area. Area businesses hand out treats to youngsters. The Marvin Kent Train Car is the scene for the Jaycees sponsored haunted dance party. Hometown Bank Plaza hosts a costume contest."
