This Portland tradition cannot be beat. For the past 59 years, upwards of 50 illuminated boats travel the Willamette and Columbia Rivers in December. Spectators have no trouble getting in the holiday spirit. Donations from local restaurants make this event possible.

This magnificent display begins right after Thanksgiving and runs through the end of December. Over 500,000 lights fill the Grotto with a festive feeling, while carolers and other choir performances really get visitors in the holiday spirit.

The strange pairing of forests and chocolate results in a very special event held in Portland every year. The Oregon Convention Center is the site of this luscious festival. The best regional chocolates are available for sampling and many are truly decadent. Proceeds from this event go to the World Forestry Center.

For approximately 2 weeks between May and June, Portland is in full bloom with its annual Rose Festival. Highlights include three separate parades, fireworks displays, races and, of course, a rose show. Around since the early 1900s, the festival puts a spotlight on volunteerism and environmentalism.

Giving back to the community is the motivation behind this event which has been going strong since 1988. This five-day event brings the best of blues musicians together for crowd pleasing performances with the Willamette River as a backdrop. Blues cruises and after-hour parties round out the events. Monetary proceeds and food donations collected at the event benefit local charitable organizations.

The campus of Portland State University is the site for this wonderful farmer's market held every Saturday from March till December. Now totaling almost 50 vendors each time the market is in session, the array of fresh fruits, vegetables and meats available for purchase cannot be beat.
