  • JACKSONVILLE, OR: Get your writing done, alongside other writers in your local community. We welcome anyone who needs to write, for any kind of projectbe it a novel, short story, essay, legal document, school report, poem, screenplay, or anything else. Our format is very brief introductions, followed by an hour of writing. Free. NEW TIME: 8:35-10:00 AM.

INTRODUCTIONS: The opportunity to introduce your work at the beginning of each Shut Up & Write Session helps foster the sense of being part of a community of writers which alleviates the solitary nature of writing. It's also a great way to gain clarity about what you are doing, and how to speak to others about it. When you are writing fiction, for example, it's huge to have a chance to practice how you want to frame your logline. A logline is shorthand for the one-liner that you would use to convey your story to an editor or an agent. The immediate benefit however, is that, in the process, you learn more about your own intentions and what you really mean to express with your work in progress...

Join us for an hour of writing! Weve discovered that its strikingly helpful to write with other writers. See if its true for you at 8:35 AM on Thursday mornings.

Be it a book, blog, script, essay, dissertation, resume, melody, poem or just plain work stuff, you are invited to write it with us. No one will see what you've written or give you unsolicited advice. Instead of just thinking about writing, come and get some real writing done.

    8:35 - quick intros.

9:00 - timer starts: write for 1 hour.

10:00 - (the end) chat / take off / keep writing.

GUIDELINES: Come a few minutes early to get settled and meet people. Once we start at 8:35 AM, it's okay to come in late, but please find a seat and just get going on whatever you are working on. Part of how we stay productive and focused is by working for an hour in silence. Our sense of community seems to grow especially strong because of this practice! By dedicating a single hour each week, youll see progress in your writing project and develop the discipline needed to finish.

LOCATION: Rebel Heart Books has generously offered to open their doors to us before the store opens, so there is a quiet atmosphere conducive to good concentration. 157 W. California Street, Jacksonville, OR 97530. (541)[masked] EVERY THURSDAY: 8:35-10:00 AM. This weekly Writing group is free.

LIBATIONS: The newly opened, Cerberus Coffee, at 310 E California St in Jacksonville, has generously donated coffee for our group! Kudos to your new enterprise and we wish you a great year!

LOGISTICS: There will be only limited access to power outlets for laptops - please come with your laptops pre-charged. There is free wifi available.

TRAVEL/PARKING: There is usually street parking available. There is additional parking behind the same block or in the lot near the library.

OPTIONAL SOCIALIZING: We find that the group seems to generate offshoots of discussion based on mutual interests. You are welcome to take up the conversation after the group. Those interested in the same kind of writing are encouraged to take the conversation down the street at the intersection of California St. and N 5th St to Cerberus Coffee: and thank them for donating coffee to our meetup! Thank you for patronizing sponsoring businesses.

BEING LATE IS OKAY: just show up and get settled, then check-in after the session.

I look forward to meeting you! ~Gabrielle Pullen~ Facilitator and Owner, Your Life Matters Learning Resources for Embodied Writing, Cognition & Creative Writing. P.S. RSVP is not obligatory. I check in with this site once a week or so, but if you need to, you can contact me at[masked].
