The well-known state city lies on the southwestern corner of Tennessee along the shores of the Mississippi River. The U.S. government purchased the land from the Chickasaw people and began building the city. Today, Memphis is a leader in the business world and famous for its music and musical talent. While in the city, visitors often frequent the Dixon Gallery and Gardens, Graceland, the Pink Palace Museum and the historic Victorian Village.

Things To Do

For an entire weekend at the end of April, Tom Lee Park serves as the location for the annual Beale Street Music Festival, which begins a month-long city celebration. More than one million people arrive to attend concerts performed by regional headline acts.

Hundreds of teams arrive at riverside to compete in the Memphis in May World Championship Barbecue Cooking Contest. In addition to the mouth-watering aroma of barbecued pork, each team's booth is creatively decorated with swine-themed embellishments and names. Chefs also don whimsical adornments. Food is provided by various local vendors.

Each June, residents of Italian descent celebrate their heritage during the Memphis Italian Festival. All are welcome to enjoy the fun that includes traditional music, food, games, arts and crafts and other events. The charitable event donates proceeds to the Holy Rosary Church.

The beloved Memphis son is commemorated every August during Elvis Week. Tens of thousands make a point of visiting the celebrity's home and once a year, thousands make the pilgrimage to honor the King of Rock 'n' Roll. There is a candlelight vigil in the Meditation Garden along with a Graceland Insiders Conference.
