There is More to Dallas, TX Than Old West Tradition

Dallas is situated in the northeastern region of the state and along the Red River. In 1841, John Neely Bryan established a permanent settlement here. The metropolis is known far and wide for its authentic Mexican and Tex-Mex cuisines in addition to barbecues. The community also boasts being the home of six professional sports teams. Popular places to visit include the Arts District, the Dallas World Aquarium and the Perot Museum of Nature and Science.

Things To Do

Each February, residents celebrate Mardi Gras Texas Style. Thousands turn out for the event that features a colorful parade along with dozens of Texas Red Dirt and country music stars who perform on five different stages. Guests do not go away hungry as there is always plenty of Cajun crawfish, jambalaya and pies to go around.

The performing arts are celebrated each year during the Out of the Loop Fringe Festival. Rated in the top 20 list of popular Dallas events, festivities involve the best in dramatic, musical and dance performances provided by artists from the state and around the world.

In early March, the city presents the North Texas Irish Festival, which is considered to be the largest event in the southwest. Premiere Irish musicians and dancers from across the globe arrive to provide entertainment. There are also cultural presentations, demonstrations, exhibits and workshops.

Every May, Fair Park serves as the location for the CityArts Festival. Young and old alike enjoy the exhibits presented by more than 100 local, regional and national artists. The event also features 60s-themed dance parties featuring era appropriate music and dance. Two outdoor movies offer entertainment in the evenings and famous chefs provide demonstrations.
