Welcome To Garland, TX

Visitors find the Detroit/Fort Worth suburb in the northeastern region of the state. European immigrants began arriving during the middle of the 1800s. By 1874, a community emerged. Today, Garland boasts a diverse population and an atmosphere that appeals to families and businesses alike.

Outdoor recreation enthusiasts are in heaven with the more than 2,880 acres of parks available. The city features 73 sports fields, 30 miles of trails, Lake Ray Hubbard and the Firewheel Golf Park.

Things To Do

Beginning on May 5, the Garland downtown area celebrates Cinco de Mayo with a two-day event. Live bands perform throughout the event. Performers also present costumed folk dances. People enjoying the music dance in the streets. The Kids Zone entertains youngsters. The many festival foods include cold beer and tacos.

On each Thursday night throughout the summer, all are invited to attend the Sunset Cinema on the Square events. All relax on the lawn and enjoy a different family-friendly movie each week.

During the third weekend in September, Garland hosts the yearly Live Well-Go Green Expo. In order to encourage healthy living, the event features a number of outdoor and sporting activities, which are open to all. Dozens of vendors offer exhibits revolving around the live well concept. Various health screenings and vaccinations are also available.

On December 1, the downtown area gets ready for the holiday season during the annual Christmas on the Square festivities. The event features a gala tree-lighting ceremony in the company of Santa and special guests. Youngsters enjoy tubing down real snow hills and artists offer live ice carving demonstration. Choirs sing traditional songs. Refreshments are provided.

Each year, on the second weekend of December, the community hosts the annual Jingle Bell Run the Forest event. The charitable activity takes place in the downtown area and welcomes all from the age of 6 and up to enter the 5K run/walk race. The Historic Downtown Garland Square also features a variety of food and merchandise vendors along with family-friendly activities.
