Experience Western Culture and History in San Antonio, Texas

American history fans often visit the famous Alamo Mission, the San Juan Capistrano Mission. The Buckhorn Saloon & Museum features exhibits commemorating the Old West, the Texas Rangers and artworks commemorating the cowboy and Native American cultures. The downtown River Walk appeals to locals and guests all year long, and the San Antonio River provides ample opportunities for outdoor recreation.

Things to do

Get a taste of Western culture in the middle of February when the city hosts the annual San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo. Billed as being the largest event in area, the stock show and rodeo provides the chance for visitors of all ages to see various live animal exhibits, attend parades and witness professional Western athletes go through the paces.

In April, venture to the Fiesta San Antonio, which commemorates the Alamo and Battle of San Jacinto heroes of yesteryear. The eleven-day event features an abundance of attractions that include a wide selection of foods, live music, art exhibits, parades, parties and various interactive activities.

From April into May, SeaWorld hosts the annual Seven Seas Food Festival. Visitors have the chance to sample a wide selection of international foods while indulging in locally created craft beers and wines.

Every April, young and old visit the waterfront for the Texas Sandfest. Recognized as being the largest sand competition in the country, hundreds of sculptures demonstrate their talents at the three-day event that features five different competitions.
