Discover the Beauty and Traditions of Chesterfield, VA

Scenic Chesterfield lies in the east-central region of the state between the Appomattox and the James Rivers. Following the establishment of Jamestown in 1607, settlers began exploring other territories. Formerly of Henrico County, Chesterfield separated and was founded in 1749. The terrain varies from rocky hills to sandy, coastal plains, which make the destination ideal for outdoor activities. The rivers are favored for boating and fishing while the hills attract hikers and mountain bikers. Golfers venture to the First Tee Chesterfield in Harry G. Daniel Park. Visitors of all ages enjoy viewing the exhibits at the Metro Richmond Zoo.

Things To Do

Each April, Virginia wineries provide the public with the chance to sample a variety of vintages during A Celebration of the Vine Festival. The Millworks at the Green serves as the destination for the event that also features live entertainment and food.

During the first weekend in July, fans of traditional mountain music venture to the Wayside Park for the Wayside Bluegrass Festival. The four-day event features the talents of local and regional award-winning musicians and vocalists.

Johnson's Orchards host the unique The Horse and the Hound Wine Festival in July. Along with sampling many different wines originating in the state, guests are treated to a Parade of Horses, dog agility demonstrations, muskrat racing, concerts, art, craft and food vendors and other family-friendly activities.

The Chesterfield County Fair begins at the end of August and provides a wealth of entertainment for an entire week. Festivities include agricultural exhibits, a carnival, a monster truck show, a talent show, concerts and plenty of activities an fair food.

Pocahontas State Park hosts the annual Hops in the Park harvest festival in November. The event features local artisans, brewers, food and merchandise vendors and live entertainment.
