The United States Virgin Islands consists of three main islands and a collection of smaller islands. Throughout modern history, the islands have been held by a variety of European powers. Finally, in 1916, the islands were sold to the United States by Denmark. Today, tourists flock to the U.S. Virgin Islands for beautiful tropical vistas and coral reefs. In addition to extensive natural beauty, the region also offers museums, art exhibits, theater productions and more attractions.
