Welcome To Brattleboro, VT

The location on which Brattleboro now stands began along the Connecticut River as Fort Dummer in 1724. Brattleboro was officially a chartered community in 1753. Surrounded by forested hills, the community today is considered an artist's haven. Along with enjoying the beauty of the outdoors, locals and guests make a point of visiting area museums and galleries.

Things To Do

Throughout the month of February, the community chases away the winter blues during the annual Brattleboro Winter Carnival. Visitors of all ages enjoy the long list of fun-filled events, which include hay rides, sleigh rides, pancake breakfasts and a carnival. Other activities include live entertainment, cooking classes and competitions along with mystery dinner presentations.

In March, the Lachish Theatre hosts the annual New England Center for Circus Arts Circus Spectacular. The two-day event enables the public to witness the talents of the some of the world's most renowned acrobats, aerialists and jugglers.

Toward the end of May, beer drinkers unite during the annual Brattleboro Brewer's Festival. Dozens of local, regional and national brewers provide samples of their products. Vendors offer Asian, Mexican and popular American foods. First-rate bands provide live entertainment.

During the first weekend in June, Brattleboro commemorates its agricultural heritage during the annual Strolling of the Heifers event. Three days of fun begin as budding farmers lead heifer calves in the parade, which also features other domestic animals, marching bands, clowns and decorated floats.

From the middle of July through the end of August, Marlboro College presents instrumental and vocal concerts during the annual Marlboro Music Festival. More than 80 musicians and vocalists from across the country arrive on campus to collaborate and rehearse for the public weekend concerts.

For 10 days in November, moviegoers have the chance to attend the annual Brattleboro Film Festival. A variety of films created by independent filmmakers from around the world are available for viewing and judging. The event also features panel discussions, workshops and an awards ceremony.
